SUMMARY

I seek to improve my understanding of the professional practice of urban planning and GIS technology through first-hand experience and mentorship. In addition to academic success, my professional life has given me the skills and knowledge to transition between operational and technological topics, deliver comprehensive assessments of organizational challenges, and carry out initiatives to attain specific goals. These diverse roles range from supporting the needs of faculty within a university setting, to providing insightful and detail-oriented support to a municipal planning department, to undertaking research and design work in support of the policy and planning initiatives of a local non-profit organization.

Contributing to a renown policy, planning, advocacy and research non-profit organization that promotes regional, balanced and sustainable solutions aimed at enhancing the Hudson River Valley and its communities.

▪ Develop and design maps and charts for analytical infographic publications that highlight local urban centers.
▪ Research plans and reports regarding the status of regional housing, infrastructure, and economic revitalization projects.
▪ Compile digital and physical data resources that enable future project proposals to conform to local plans and designs.

Clarkstown Planning Department – 10 Maple Avenue, New City, NY 10956

Support a local municipal planning department through the completion of a variety of projects, from document organization and logistic support, to the management of essential geospatial data within the Town of Clarkstown, New York.

▪ Collaborate on site specific projects, the town’s comprehensive plan, and ongoing efforts to develop a climate action plan.
▪ Provide support regarding project documents, plans, memos, reports, planning board, and zoning board decisions.
▪ Work with the town’s Principal Planner to prepare for planning board and zoning board public hearings.
▪ Utilize GIS software to manage data and design maps for use in various capacities throughout the town.
▪ Assist the department in fulfilling its federal MS4 mandate, by supervising geospatial data collection and editing projects.
▪ Customize software tools to perform specific, in-depth data validation checks on planning related GIS maps.

Completed a variety of GIS and Graphic Design based projects for select Bard faculty members and local organizations.

▪ Tasked with designing maps and infographics for use within grant proposals, presentations, and research projects.
▪ Utilized extensive Adobe design software knowledge to enhance the aesthetic representation of graphical elements.

Administrative Assistant

Serviced the needs of the Bard College Anthropology and Environmental & Urban Studies Departments through the management and completion of various administrative, academic, and design projects.

▪ Provided logistic and administrative support to faculty and staff leading up to, and during, a variety of on-campus events.
▪ Completed an array of graphic design work related to event posters, flyers, name-badges, and sign-in sheets.
▪ Coordinated with local organizations with regards to having Bard students conduct ongoing on-site research.
▪ Managed the consistent delivery of sensitive department mail and inter-departmental correspondence.
▪ Collaborated with faculty in the review and revision of their own forthcoming academic publications.



VOLUNTEER WORK

Member of a local environmental and community services organization based and operated in Rockland County, New York.

▪ Participated in large-scale environmental cleanup projects targeting threatened waterways, forests, and wetlands.
▪ Supported local environmental conservation organizations such as the Cornell University Cooperative Extension.
▪ Collaborated with the New York/New Jersey Trail Conference on multi-day trail building and maintenance activities.


Mahwah Environmental Volunteers Organization (MEVO) – 1024 Ash Drive, Mahwah, NJ 07430

Volunteered part-time for an environmental non-profit organization building sustainability projects and educational outreach programs in Northern New Jersey.

▪ Completed various projects and initiatives on MEVO’s Fresh Roots Farm, a two-acre community based educational farm.
▪ Participated in public outreach programs that seek to educate the local community on a variety of ecological issues.
▪ Managed administrative tasks including volunteer event planning, fundraisers, and grass-roots community organizing.

Chair of the Bicycle Co-operative
September 2015 – May 2017
Created a community organization, in association with the Bard College Office of Sustainability, that continues to offer its valuable services to the entire university campus.

▪ Founded a large community space where comprehensive bicycle repair and maintenance services are provided.
▪ Petitioned student government for an increase in funding to support the integral work of the co-operative.
▪ Managed and maintained a campus “bike-share” program, which provides short-term bicycle rentals to students in need.
▪ Organized community events and workshops that promote the bicycle as an important transportation solution.
